75 Years of FSC
FSC is celebrating its 75th year. The founders of the organisation struggled through a bomb damaged London to meet at the Natural History Museum and set up what became the FSC.
Recognising that existing facilities for studying natural history first hand needed a lot of improvement, their vision was to create a number of hostels for field studies, each with a trained warden.
Even at the start of the FSC, the fact that the majority of people lived
in towns was acknowledged, as were the“virtues of county living”.
Now, 75 years on the much wider benefits of first hand learning in
the real world are better understood. It’s the ongoing relevance of
outdoor learning that we will be celebrating during our 75th Year.
