The Field Studies Council can provide CPD or informal training for your staff, customers, volunteers, communities, and project coordinators.

Our dedicated team trains people to take positive action for the environment, biodiversity, and conservation. All our courses are delivered by highly skilled tutors specialising in a particular area of biodiversity.

We provide training courses across areas of species identification, habitat surveying, biological/wildlife recording, and ecological monitoring.

We’re a national environmental education charity with over 80 years’ experience and a track record of national collaborations. We have an extensive catalogue of existing courses and the capability to create bespoke training solutions for your group.

Online Courses : Group and On-demand Bookings

We have a huge range of scheduled online courses throughout the year.

If you would like to book a group onto one of these courses, please contact us – the bigger the group, the bigger the discount!

Discount rates correct at January 2024:
10 – 19 people: 10% discount
20 – 29 people: 20% discount
30 – 50 people: 30% discount
50+: please enquire about exclusive access

The above rates apply to scheduled courses which will not be exclusive to your group as spaces are regularly sold to other learners. We can offer runs of any of our online courses on-demand, exclusively for your group at a time that suits you. This has the added benefit of interactive online tutorials being tailored to your particular group’s needs and providing more of a personal touch.

For online tutor-led courses, we can supply training for up to 150 people at a time.

In-person Courses: Group and On-demand Bookings

We have a huge range of scheduled in-person courses across the year.

If you would like to book a group of 10+ on a scheduled course we can offer a 10% discount. Please contact us to arrange your group booking.
We can also make bookings on-demand for any in-person course from our pre-existing course programme – with the benefit of you being able to choose the date and location to suit your schedule.
We recommend these booking requests are made at least 4 months ahead to give ample time for our course coordination team to meet your needs and avoid disappointment.
We can generally run in-person courses in the UK for up to 15 people for the best learner experience.

The details will depend on the specific course and tutor availability.

1-day course: Prices start from £1,650
2-day courses: Price starts from £2,860

If you are a charity, let us know! We can offer a discount of up to 20% on an on-demand booking.
Prices include a publication bundle from our catalogue. Refreshments/catering can be arranged for additional charge on request.

Bespoke course development

In addition to the courses we already offer, we can work with you to develop bespoke courses to meet your training needs.

We can develop in-person training, online training, or a hybrid course with aspects of both.

With field centres and partner venues across the UK, we can organise the most suitable location. If you have a location in mind, we can also come to you!

Examples of bespoke courses design:

First steps into green careers: training on field identification, protected species legislation, careers guidance, habitat surveying, and ecological report writing.
Biological recording: training on managing and collating and visualising biological records using third party software such as iRecord and QGIS.
Ecological monitoring: training on ecological survey techniques for protected species.
Biodiversity Metric: baseline UKHAB surveys, habitat condition assessments; understanding the metric – for reviewers (non-ecologists or assessors (ecologists.)
Species identification: training across a wide range of taxonomic groups such as birds, mammals, plants, insects, and fungi.
