Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All


The list below shows the current Family Courses run by Epping Forest Field Centre. Full details of each course can be found by clicking on the title in the list below. Our courses are designed for different age/family groups, details below. NB Places are limited and must be booked in advance. To book, or for more infmation, please contact us.

  • Forest Seedlings: Activities for toddlers and their carers to embrace the Forest throughout the changing seasons. Enjoy outdoor exploration, songs, stories, sensory play and more in the natural world. Age: 18months-4years. Sessions run 10:00-12:00. Adults: FREE, Children: £6 per session.
  • Forest Explorers: Activities designed for discovery and exploration. Discover the amazing creatures and plants that live in the Forest. Activities can include crafts, scavenger hunts, sensory adventures, pond dipping and minibeast hunts and team games. Age: 5-11s + adults. Sessions run 10:00-12:00. Adults: £3, Children: £6 per session
  • Forest Adventurers: An opportunity for participants to look at the Forest from a different perspective. These courses ask participants to learn new skills to survive in the Forest, teach them how to carry out effective investigations, solve mysteries and how to conserve the Forest for future generations to enjoy. Age: 10+. Sessions run 9:30-15:00. £25 per session.
  • John Muir Award Week:  Come to Epping Forest and complete the John Muir Award! Challenge yourself: spend 4 days in the forest exploring the different habitats. Learn how to conserve the environment for the future and how to survive using the Forest’s resources. Discover, Explore, Conserve and Share. Age: 10+. Sessions run 9:30-16:00. Cost £170 for the week.
