The use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to view, analyse and interpret places and data is an integral part of the geography curriculum at Key Stage 3. This course will provide teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to confidently and effectively incorporate GIS into KS3 teaching and learning.
The course will cover what GIS is, examples of how it is currently used in industry and how it can be used by schools to acquire, manipulate and display geo-referenced data using a variety of different software. We will look at practical ways to use GIS both in the classroom and in fieldwork, making GIS accessible to all students from Year 7 upwards, thus laying the foundations for students to effectively use this tool at GCSE and A Level.
