How can students be best prepared for independent investigation, what tools and techniques can they utilise, and how best can we facilitate the process raise attainment? This course aims to provide teachers’ knowledge and skills required to confidently and effectively support students through all stages of the enquiry process. It will be led by experienced tutors from Slapton Ley Field Centre and will cover key aspects of the Independent Investigation, including:

  • Effective planning – exploring a focus, devising a good question, promoting independence
  • Using GIS to collect, present and analyse data
  • Developing a toolkit of quantitative and qualitative techniques
  • Statistical analysis
  • Research techniques and using secondary data effectively
