Field Studies Council Wins Awards for Carbon Reductions
Field Studies Council (FSC) is an environmental education charity with a commitment to the environment at the heart of everything we do. It is therefore important to us to help limit the impact made on the environment by our UK-wide network of locations, by significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Our efforts to do so have won us several awards, setting a great example to other organisations.
In 2015 FSC started to work with the Carbon Trust to create a Carbon Management Plan which details our aims to reduce the organisation’s carbon footprint and how this will be carried out. We set the ambitious target of a 25% carbon reduction by 2017 which FSC have already reached with a 29.8% reduction in 2016! We are proud to have been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in 2015 and have gone on to win other awards in recognition of our success.
One of our Centres (Blencathra, Cumbria) won awards in 2015 and 2016 with The Green Organisation. They won The Green Apple Award in 2015 and were honoured as International Green World Ambassadors in 2016 due to their environmental success of their renewable energy project. They are now going on to enter The Green World Awards for the Environment in 2017 which is a campaign to find the “greenest” organisation in the world.
FSC are also proud to announce that we are a Green Gown Awards finalist. The Green Gown Awards recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken in the further and higher education sector and it is the most prestigious recognition of best practice in these sectors.
As well as the Carbon Trust, FSC are working with Fit For The Future Network, a solution-sharing network for organisations that want to become more sustainable, to achieve our next ambitious target; a 40% reduction in our carbon footprint by 2020.
