Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Polli:Nation creating a buzz

FSC is a partner in the Polli:Nation project which is supporting pupils from schools to turn their school grounds and other local places into pollinator-friendly habitats.

Some fantastic comments have come in from the schools who have been taking part in 2016:

"Leys Farm received the North Lincolnshire's Best Kept School Garden award in August."

"The school visited a local bee keeper who did a talk and demonstration. He talked about the honeybee life cycle and children were able to see the bees in the honeycomb that he lifted out of the hives."

"One boy who is normally only interested in anything football related, became especially engaged and by the end of the afternoon was an expert in identifying ladybirds using a spotters app."

"The school had a polli summer fair and sold seed bombs to help raise money for the project."

"Polli:Nation has been able to influence the construction material of the new build, Western Red Cedar is now going to be used as a cladding material, potentially providing homes for solitary bees."

"The staff and children at Fortrose Nursery have been very busy involving everyone with the project as a topic. They have a display on the wall and lots of work created by the children."
